The Vesta Protocol was a protocol brought in for Vesta Class Starships in the Delta Quadrant, under the authority of Admiral Paka Larem.

History

On Sunday 27 August, 2389, a force of Vaadwaur ships attacked the station at the gateway to the Alpha Quadrant, effectively stranding all Starfleet assets in the Delta Quadrant. During the battle the Admiral ordered the two Vesta Class ships, the USS Maggiore and USS Pinciana to evacuate to Ourea Colony. The logic being that with their only way back to the Alpha Quadrant being the Vesta Class slipstream drives, they needed to be as far away from any battle as possible. Given the importance of maintaining contact with Starfleet Command, it was decided that there would be a schedule for the Vesta Class ships. At any given time, there would be a ship in transit either to, or from, the Alpha Quadrant.

On the 31st August 2389, at around 1300, another group of Vaadwaur ships attacked Starfleet forces in the SH-22 system. Several ships were damaged, but fortunately there were no Vesta class ships in the vicinity.

It was a few days after this that Admiral Paka wrote up the 'Vesta Protocol'.

Protocol

The Vesta Protocol is implemented whenever there is any sort of threat any of the four Vesta Class starships, regardless of location:

  • USS Asinaria
  • USS Maggiore
  • USS Pinciana
  • USS Tiburtina

When the Protocol is initated, the following things occur:

  • If the threat occurs when the ship is out of the Ourea Station, a communication is sent to Ourea Station. This is given to the Captain, Solin Edral.
  • Aisha then silmultatiosly sends a message to all Vesta Class ships.
  • The Vesta class ship then goes to Red Alert and the Slipstream drive is spun up in preparation.
  • The message from Aisha contains 4 different sets of coordinates for each of the ships, which are chosen at random from several hundred thousand.
  • The Captain of the ship then takes the ship into Slipstream, with no knowledge of the actual destination.
  • If the threat is dealt with, a communication is sent to the ships, and the slip stream is powered down, as soon as it is safe to do so.
  • If the threat continues, the ship remains in Slip Stream for up to 20 hours, before it shuts down as part of the slip stream safety system.
  • Once the all clear is sent, the ships return to Ourea Station.
