Access to all Starfleet data is highly regulated. A standard set of access levels have been programmed into the computer cores of all ships in order to stop any undesired access to confidential data. Security levels are also variable, and task-specific. Certain areas of the ship are restricted to unauthorized personnel, regardless of security level. Security levels can also be raised, lowered, or revoked by Command personnel.
Access Levels
Access levels in use on board Starfleet Ships are:
- Level 1 – Open Access (Read Only)
- Level 2 – Civilian Personnel, Crewman Apprentice
- Level 3 – Enlisted Ranks Crewman-Petty Officer 3rd Class
- Level 4 - Ensign, Petty Officer 1st & 2nd Class
- Level 5 – Lt. Junior Grade
- Level 6 – Lieutenant, Chief Petty Officer, Warrant Officers
- Level 7 – Lt. Commander, Master Chief Petty Officer
- Level 8 - Commander
- Level 9 – First Officer
- Level 10 – Captain and Above
Note: Security Levels beyond current rank can and are bestowed where, when and to whom they are necessary.
The main computer grants access based on a battery of checks to the individual user, including face and voice recognition in conjunction with a vocal code as an added level of security.
Access to Information
Level 1
Allows basic access to some areas aboard a starship, as well as public official logs. Allows basic access to Starfleet records and data files.
Level 2
Allows operational access to most areas aboard a starship, as well as public official logs. Allows basic access Starfleet records and data files.
Level 3
Allows full operational access to most areas aboard a starship, as well as public official logs. Allows access to weapons locker for Starfleet personnel. Also allows limited access to Starfleet records and data files.
Level 4
Allows full operational access to most areas aboard a starship, as well as public official logs. Allows access to weapons lockers for Starfleet personnel, as well as access to tactical data and communications systems. Level 4 is also the minimum security clearance for all Starfleet intelligence officers, and allows limited access to Starfleet records and data files.
Level 5
Allows full operational access to most areas aboard a starship, as official logs. Allows access to weapons lockers for Starfleet personnel, as well as access to tactical, operations, flight control, and communications systems. Level 5 clearance permits the officer basic operational authority in certain situations. Also allows access to most Starfleet records and data files.
Level 6
Allows full operational access to most areas aboard a starship, as well as personnel and official logs. Allows access to weapons lockers for Starfleet personnel, as well as access to tactical, operations, flight control, communications systems and limited command systems. In addition, limited access is granted to the ship's shuttlebay and support craft. Level 6 clearance permits the officer limited operational authority in certain situations. Also allows access to most Starfleet records and data files.
Level 7
Allows full operational access to all areas aboard a starship, as well as personnel and official logs. Allows access to weapons lockers for Starfleet and non-Starfleet personnel, including the armory, as well as access to tactical, operations, flight control, communications, and command systems. In addition, full access is granted to the ship's shuttlebay and support craft. Level 7 clearance permits the officer full operational authority in certain situations. Also allows access to most Starfleet records and data files.
Level 8
Allows full operational access to all areas aboard a starship, as well as personnel and official logs. Allows access to weapons lockers for Starfleet and non-Starfleet personnel, including the armory, as well as access to tactical, operations, flight control, communications, and command systems. In addition, full access is granted to the ship's shuttlebay and support craft. Level 8 clearance permits the officer full operational authority in certain situations. Also allows access to all Starfleet records and data files, unless classified by a higher authority.
Level 9
Allows full operational access to all areas aboard a starship, as well as personnel and official logs. Allows access to weapons lockers for Starfleet and non-Starfleet personnel, including the armory, as well as access to tactical, operations, flight control, communications, and command systems. In addition, full access is granted to the ship's shuttlebay and support craft. Level 9 clearance is reserved specifically for the ship's executive officer, regardless of rank, and gives s/he full operational authority in many situations. Also allows access to all Starfleet records and data files, unless classified by a higher authority.
Level 10
Allows full operational access to all areas aboard a starship, as well as personnel and official logs. Allows access to weapons lockers for Starfleet and non-Starfleet personnel, including the armory, as well as access to tactical, operations, flight control, communications, and command systems. In addition, full access is granted to the ship's shuttlebay and support craft. Level 10 clearance is reserved specifically for the ship's commanding officer, regardless of rank, and gives s/he full operational authority of the ship at all times. It is required to access the Omega One data file, which contains information on the Omega Directive. Also allows access to all Starfleet records and data files, unless classified by a higher authority. Depending on the commanding officer's rank, Level 10 (the highest) data access privileges may be assigned.
